“Let Love Be Genuine”

Our recent weekend at Mustang Island Conference Center gave me an opportunity to reconnect with God, myself, and our diocesan community. Surrounded by the beauty of the ocean, abundant meals, the welcoming staff, the sound of the waves, and the peacefulness of God’s creation, I was reminded of His presence and the importance of slowing down, listening, and making time for reflection.

The theme of our retreat came from Romans 12:9: “Let love be genuine.” This simple yet powerful message challenged me to reflect on how I show love to others. Genuine love is more than kind words or good intentions; it is revealed through our actions, our willingness to serve, and our ability to care for others with a sincere and compassionate heart. The retreat encouraged me to consider the foundations of my relationships. Are they built on authentic compassion, patience, forgiveness, and understanding?

The peaceful setting of the beach also provided time to appreciate and recognize the many blessings in my life. Watching the sunrise, feeling the ocean breeze, sharing meals, and taking moments for quiet reflection helped renew my spirit and strengthen my faith. It reminded me that God often speaks to us not only through Scripture and worship but also through the beauty and stillness of His creation.

On our return home, I carried with me a renewed commitment to live out the message of Romans 12:9. I want my love for others to be genuine—not simply something I say, but something I demonstrate through my daily actions. This retreat was a beautiful reminder that God calls us to love sincerely, serve faithfully, and encourage one another along our journey of faith.

I encourage all members of our St. Nicks family to take time and experience Family Camp at our beautiful Mustang Island Conference Center. It is a blessing and something our family looks forward to every year. It provides us with an opportunity to grow closer to God, strengthen our relationships, and experience the joy of community together.
