Five Years as St. Nick’s! – St. Nick’s News Aug 22, 2025

Full St. Nick’s News for August 22, 2025

Dear Friends,

Years ago I read Robert Fulghum’s little classic, Everything I Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. His wisdom still lingers with me: the most important lessons of life are simple, human, and deeply spiritual.

  • Share everything.
  • Say you’re sorry.
  • Hold hands when you cross the street.
  • Take a nap when you need one.

I have often joked this past year that St. Nick’s is all of five years old, and is in kindergarten. We have so much to learn, so much to accomplish, and so many opportunities to glorify God and bless others.

As we celebrate five years of life together, as we celebrate being “kindergarteners” I see the lessons I mention above in you. This church is not just something I dreamed up —St. Nick’s is something you have built, with God’s help, each time you’ve shown up, prayed, given, served, and loved one another. You’ve shared your gifts, you’ve forgiven and been forgiven, you’ve walked hand in hand through both joys and sorrows. You are shaping this community, and you are necessary to God’s mission.

Like any good kindergartner, we know we are just beginning. Ahead lies the call to grow deeper roots of faith, to widen our welcome, and to be bold in living Christ’s love in the Hill Country. That doesn’t happen because of one person’s dream—it happens because together we keep learning, keep listening, and keep stepping into God’s future side by side.

Not long ago, someone asked me, “Beth, is this what you imagined when you first dreamed of St. Nick’s?” The truth is—I could never have imagined this. Because what I see today is not my dream alone, but the Spirit working through you. It is your laughter, your generosity, your willingness to hold hands and cross into the unknown together that has made this church what it is. Through you, (and in the words of St. Paul in Ephesians) God has done infinitely more than I can ask or imagine.

And what gives me the most hope is this: God isn’t finished with us yet. The Body of Christ is still forming here—through your faith, your gifts, your love. The future of St. Nick’s belongs to God, and God has chosen you to be the ones to live it.

I am always grateful when we gather together in worship and hope to see you this Sunday. I also hope you will be able to join us on August 31st for our Celebration Sunday. We will have information on our new program year, we will celebrate our volunteers and have delicious breakfast tacos from Maggie Mae’s Fresh Eats Catering Company.

God’s Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Beth+
