Running Toward Sunday – St. Nick’s News Oct. 24, 2025
Full St. Nick’s News for October 24, 2025
Dear Friends,
This week, clergy from across the Diocese of West Texas gathered for our annual clergy conference—a time to pray, learn, and reconnect. We met at Camp Capers, our diocesan camp nestled in the Hill Country, where the beauty of creation always seems to make space for the Spirit to move.
It was a gift to hear from The Rt. Rev. Robert C. Wright, Bishop of Atlanta, whose teaching called us to lead and preach with both passion and compassion in an ever-changing and often foolish world. Bishop Wright is an enthusiastic teacher, and it was inspiring to see his absolute love for the Lord, for God’s holy Church, and for God’s beloved people.
Two things have been living and stirring in my heart since the conference:
- Prioritize adoration and gratitude. Bishop Wright challenged us first and foremost to remember to adore God and steep ourselves in gratitude. Even in the midst of deep heartache and the brokenness and cruelty in our world -we must remember to thank and adore God. We are alive and have abundant blessings. Naturally, I thought of you all and was rightly overwhelmed with deep gratitude for the life God has blessed me with here at St. Nicks and with you!
- We can and should be running toward Sundays. We need one another, and we need the life changing love of Jesus. When we run towards worship each week we are recognizing Jesus as King, Ruler, and Lord of our life. We put ourselves in relationship with God and one another and strengthen our faith to live in our vastly changing world. Our world is hurting. People are weary. And worshiping and praying together—to the One who brings healing and hope—is one of the most faithful things we can do.
I am, of course, giving you the super concise version. He had much more to say and it was, as I shared, inspiring and energizing. And naturally, as he spoke of adoration, gratitude, and running towards Sundays, I couldn’t help but raise a little inner hallelujah. This is who we are at St. Nick’s Hill Country. We are a people running towards Sunday so we can be together and hear the hope of Jesus. We love getting together to laugh, love, learn, worship, eat, pray, and sing side by side.
In a world that aches for connection and belonging, being together in worship matters more than ever. It’s where we remember who we are and whose we are.
And this Sunday, we’ll bring a little extra joy as we bless Halloween costumes and celebrate the gift of laughter and light. After all, St. Nick’s was founded on the joy of the Lord, and joy is something the world can never have too much of. So kids of all ages don your costumes, bring a fun Halloween or spooky recipe for our Potluck and plan on playing, creating, and treating yourself to a wonderful Sunday at and after the 9:30am worship. Special treats for any dogs in costumes at 8am! Ha!
Friends, let’s keep running toward Sundays—toward joy, hope, and the love of Jesus Christ – that never stops running toward us.
God’s Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Beth+
