Stepping up to Holy Week – St. Nick’s News March 28, 2025

Full St. Nick’s News for March 28, 2025

Dear Friends,

Holy Week is the heart of the Christian year—a time when we slow down to walk with Jesus from the shouts of “Hosanna!” on Palm Sunday to the quiet intimacy of the Last Supper, the sorrow of the cross, and finally, the radiant joy of Easter morning. In the Episcopal Church, we mark this sacred week with intention, beauty, and deep reverence, remembering not only what happened to Jesus, but what it means for us today.

Each step of Holy Week invites us into a deeper experience of God’s love. We wave palms in celebration, break bread in community, wait at the foot of the cross, and awaken on Easter morning with new hope. These ancient practices aren’t just traditions—they shape our hearts, connect us with one another, and prepare us to live as Easter people in a Good Friday world.

I want to invite you and your family to join us for this sacred journey. Come for one service or come for all. Each gathering offers a way to be present with Jesus and with one another.

Holy Week Schedule

Palm Sunday – April 13

  • Worship at 8:00am and 9:30am
We begin Holy Week with joy and procession, remembering Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem.

Maundy Thursday – April 17

  • Agape Meal and Holy Eucharist Gathering at 5:30pm, service begins at 6pm
We gather around a simple meal, just as Jesus did with his disciples, and remember his commandment to love and serve one another. Come for the community meal and the Holy Eucharist as we remember the Last Supper.

Good Friday – April 18

  • Traditional Service at 12:00pm
A solemn time of prayer, reflection, and scripture as we stand at the foot of the cross.
  • Stations of the Cross from 2:00–6:00pm
A come-and-go experience for all ages, including interactive prayer stations, reflection prompts, and art-making as we walk the final steps of Jesus’ journey. You can also walk the stations displayed on our walls as you pray the stations at your pace.

Holy Saturday – April 19

  • Morning Prayers at 10:00am followed by a Church Workday
We wait in the quiet of Holy Saturday and prepare our hearts—and our space—for the joy of Easter.

Easter Sunday – April 20

  • Sunrise Worship at 6:45am
Greet the dawn of resurrection with joyful worship and the first Alleluias of Easter.
  • Festival Worship at 9:30am
A joyful celebration with music, Word, and wonder, followed by an Easter Egg Hunt for children and a Potluck Brunch for all.

This Holy Week, come as you are. Come with your questions, your hopes, your doubts, and your joy. Come with your neighbors, friends, and family. Come to join in a holy week of drawing near to Jesus and being welcomed with great love here at St. Nicks. Whether this is your first Holy Week or your fiftieth, God has something to show us when we walk this road together.

God’s Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Beth+
