Full St. Nick's News for December 5, 2023 Dear Friends, This past Sunday, we had…
Every new school year, I pray some of my favorite prayers for children, schools, teachers, and parents. Author Lois Rock has a section in her book 1000 Prayers for Children on time at school. One of the prayers, on page 106, is appropriate for all of us:
A Prayer for New Things
Help us as we learn new things. If we learn quickly and easily, may we help others to understand. If we make mistakes, may we understand what went wrong. Help us never be afraid of new things, but to see them as an adventure. Amen.
What a wonderful prayer! Not just for children and youth at school but for all of us. Especially all of us at St. Nick’s. Learning, trying new things and looking at life as an adventure are what church plants are all about. This year is no different.
This year we will be trying out new book and bible studies, new events for our children and youth, new intergenerational activities, and new ways of reaching out to our community, neighbors and world. You can find some of these events listed in this newsletter.
I hope you will come to church this Sunday to hear about the ways we as a community of faith will live into God’s call of mutual love, hospitality, and worship. This Sunday is our back to school celebration with the blessing of the backpacks (really the kids and adults using them) and giving God thanks for one year in our space. Happy Anniversary to us!!!
May God, through the love of Jesus Christ teach us that life is a beautiful adventure. May we live this adventure with great faith and in confidence that we are learning and being formed to love God and one another with great joy.
God’s Peace, Love, and Blessings,
