Sharing a Meal – St. Nick’s News for May 23, 2025

Full St. Nick’s News for May 23, 2025

Dear Friends,

In the Anglican tradition, meals have always been more than just moments to eat—they are moments to encounter God in one another. From the early church’s shared feasts to parish gatherings on the village green, the table has been a place of hospitality, storytelling, joy, and mission.

That’s why this Sunday’s St. Nick’s Church Picnic is more than just a fun event (though there will be plenty of that!). It’s part of our missional life together—a way to live out the Gospel beyond the walls of our church, celebrating God’s abundance with neighbors, friends, and the wider community. We believe sharing a meal, laughing together, and playing side by side is a form of prayer, of presence, and of proclaiming that God’s table is wide and everyone is welcome.

Throughout Anglican history, church picnics have served as grassroots expressions of this truth. In the 1800s, Episcopal parishes in the U.S. held “Sunday School picnics” to connect families, welcome newcomers, and extend the spirit of the Eucharist into the town square or countryside. These gatherings nourished the spirit as much as the body, helping congregations become visible signs of Christ’s love in their communities.

So join us this Sunday from 10am to 1pm at Bullis County Park in Comal County. Bring your favorite picnic treats to share, and come enjoy games, bubbles, a playground for the kids, and a pavilion for shade and song. Bring your lawn chairs or favorite picnic blanket. We will have extra drinks, snacks, sun screen and bug spray on hand. Feel free to invite friends and family too! Worship will begin at 10:15 and playing and picnicking after!

Whether you’re brand new or have been around since our first Sunday, your presence is a gift to our community.

At St. Nick’s, we believe the Church is at its best when it is gathered, grateful, and grounded in joy. Come, celebrate with us.

God’s Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Beth+
