Feed My Sheep – St. Nick’s News May 2, 2025

Full St. Nick’s News for May 2, 2025

Dear Friends –

This Sunday, we’ll read John 21:1–19, a post-resurrection story set beside the Sea of Tiberias. The disciples have returned to what they know—fishing. It’s not glamorous. It’s not heroic. It’s just the next thing after the confusion of the cross and the mystery of the empty tomb.

And then, in the early morning light, Jesus appears. Quietly. Gently. He calls them children. He fills their nets. He cooks them breakfast.

But the heart of this passage is what happens next: Jesus turns to Peter, the one who had denied him, and asks not about failure or shame—but about love.

“Simon, son of John, do you love me?”

Three times, Jesus asks. And three times, Peter answers.

This moment is not about guilt. It’s about grace. Jesus is restoring Peter, not rejecting him. He’s not keeping score—he’s tending to Peter’s heart, calling him back to love and purpose. It’s such a tender and sweet image – fish, firelight, questions and love.

I think this is good news for all of us.

Because all of us, at some point, return to what we know after disappointment. All of us carry some version of failure or fear. And all of us long to hear what Peter heard: You are still called. You are still loved. Feed my sheep. We come to know, through this scripture, that Jesus meets us, spends time with us, and ultimately blesses us so we may be a blessing.

Come join us this Sunday as we explore this scripture. At 9:30am we will baptize Sophie – one of our adorable new babies at St. Nick’s. In addition to this Sunday, we have lots of wonderful offerings in May.

Some upcoming opportunities include:

  • Saturday May 3rd 9am to 10am – Lay Leader Ministry Training. If you have been praying about how you can lead and serve at St. Nick’s join Rev. Beth for a training to become a reader, lay eucharistic visitor, and/or worship leader.
  • Youth Group – May 4 – right after 9:30am worship. Come have lunch, study scripture, pray, and play (have you seen our new basketball hoop?)
  • Workday May 10th – Help us care for our shared space by lending a hand during our spring Church Workday from 8:00am–11:00am. Many hands make light (and joyful) work!
  • Crafty Crew May 17 – Join in crocheting, knitting, and making cards in the Sunday School room at 9am. No experience necessary – come for the friendship and the art.
  • Garden Workshop May 17, 12pm to 2pm – Explore food systems, scarcity, and the needs in our local community.
  • Musik in the Park May 17, 6:30pm – join us to meet neighbors and listen to good music at Bulverde Community Park.
  • Worship and Picnic in the Park 10:00am – 1pm – Come and join in for a fun day of Worship and Picnic at Bullis Park. Bring a chair, bring a favorite picnic dish, and let’s celebrate with joy and laughter.

I pray we can continue to meet and see Jesus in our scriptures and in one another as we journey through this Easter season. The church celebrates the season of Easter for what is called the “Great Fifty Days” up until the Day of Pentecost. These are days gifted to us so that we might dwell in the resurrection and rejoice in the new life Jesus gives us.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday and celebrating the love of Jesus in our lives.

God’s Peace, Love, and Blessings,
Beth+
