After the Storm – St. Nick’s News June 9, 2023

Full St. Nick’s News for June 9, 2023

Dear Friends,

My original plan for this newsletter was to ooohhh and aaaahhh over our Workday last Saturday. We joked that our workdays seemed to be timely given the storms that seem to pass through at the beginning of each month. But alas, sometimes we have plans and life happens.

On Thursday afternoon, Bulverde was hit with a hail storm. Lots of our neighbors have broken glass and car damage from the storm. St. Nick’s seems to be okay, with glass still intact and no obvious damage. The main thing you notice when you come on our property are all the downed limbs and leaves – mostly leaves.

You will notice in the photos below – it’s a bit of a mess. I also added some photos from last week’s workday. I’m always amazed at what we accomplish together!

If you are available to help us clean up we are having another workday on Saturday July 10th. Jeremy, Tony and I will be at St. Nick’s at 8am to begin cleaning up all the leaves. If you would like to join us bring your rakes, snow shovels (to help put leaves in bags) and leaf blowers with you. All ages are welcome to come and help.

I am also looking forward to seeing you on Sunday for our Ice Cream Social! What a fun way to start our summer off with ice cream after church!

Last but not least, I share this prayer for times of stress and disaster with you to pray this next week. Not so much for ourselves but on behalf of our neighbors cleaning up and for those who are suffering from the wildfires and air pollution from Canada. May we always be mindful and responsive to the needs of others around us and may God’s Grace and Mercy help all in need.

Holy One, you are our comfort and strength in times of sudden disaster, crisis, or chaos. Surround us now with your grace and peace through storm or earthquake, fire or flood. By your Spirit, lift up those who have fallen, sustain those who work to rescue or rebuild, and fill us with the hope of your new creation; through you, our rock and redeemer. Amen.
